It's likely State Senator Barack Obama will visit a storefront shop in Hyde Park one last time before his February 10th announcement in Springfield.
That's because Senator Obama has been getting weekly trims at the Hyde Park Hair Salon for more than 20 years.  Clients and barbers at the shop have rubbed elbows with a long list of notable Chicago residents, including Muhammad Ali and former mayor Harold Washington.  The shop first opened in its current location at East 53rd Street and Harper Avenue in 1926 as Joe's Barbershop.  But now, The University of Chicago  is selling the building as part of the area's ongoing commercial development.
Owner Abdul Karim Shakir recently talked with Richard Steele about the history and future of the shop.
