Transit Funding Shortfall

SHARE Transit Funding Shortfall

One of the other items facing lawmakers during this legislative session is funding for mass transit.

In the short term, Metra, PACE and the CTA are all calling for millions of dollars this year to help balance their current budgets.

Just last week, the CTA announced that riders could face dramatically higher fares and major cut backs in service if it doesn't get more money by the first of July.

Meanwhile, the agency overseeing the transit providers says all three agencies need $10 billion in capital improvement funds.

Frank Beal is one of those pushing for changes to the way mass transit is funded and governed in Northeast Illinois.
