Chicago's ascendance as a trading capital began with a humble collection of agricultural merchants on S. Water St. That was in 1848. Since then, the Chicago Board of Trade has spawned a number of offspring – from the Butter and Egg Board to the Board Options Exchange. The city's exchanges have a history of churn – they've split off, merged and bought one another. Now two of the biggest players have major moves in the works – an initial public offering and a large acquisition. But both are hitting roadblocks as they look to close their deals. Eight Forty-Eight business contributor, David Greising is on the line with more.
