Chicago Trumpeter Orbert Davis

SHARE Chicago Trumpeter Orbert Davis

Trumpeter Orbert Davis isn't just a skilled instrumentalist, he's also one of the Chicago jazz scene's most ambitious and imaginative composers. He's artistic director of the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, which he'll lead tonight in a free concert at Millennium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Tonight's show is about more than the music – it's a celebration of Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday.

Soloists from both Chicago and South Africa will premiere a new Davis composition combining jazz, classical and South African themes into musical suite. It's inspired by Mandela's messages of peace, freedom and equality. The free concert starts at 6:30 this evening.
