This weekend Democrats will begin their take-over of Denver, Colorado as they gear up for the party's national convention, which officially gets underway on Monday. But before everyone reaches the mile-high city, their presumptive nominee is expected to give things a bit of a kick-start when he holds a major campaign stop in Springfield Illinois this Saturday. That's an appearance he's supposed to make with his VP candidate—whoever that is. After that Obama will head off on what the campaign is calling a “battle state tour” while delegates, politicians, lobbyists and protesters from across the county gather in Colorado.

Chicago Public Radio will be there all next week to bring you the news from the convention. Among the team we'll have following the action is our political reporter Ben Calhoun, and he joins us now in studio to talk about what's in store over the next 6 days.
