Two of Chicago's most acclaimed dance companies pay tribute to their founders this weekend. Seven months after his death, Giordano Jazz Dance Company celebrates the legacy of Gus Giordano. The Joffrey Ballet meanwhile… commemorates its co-founder on the 20th anniversary of his passing. Eight Forty-Eight Dance Critic Lucia Mauro spoke with Shawn Campbell and told her that Robert Joffrey – who co-founded the company in 1956 with his partner, Gerald Arpino – was often described with a word we're hearing a lot this election season: “maverick.”
