The Ongoing Conversation on Race, Gender and Politics

SHARE The Ongoing Conversation on Race, Gender and Politics

This year's presidential election has seen an intensified conversation about race and gender issues. Since the primary there's been criticism of the way female candidates have been portrayed by the media and their opponents. There's also been criticism of the way racially coded language has emerged at some Republican rallies. But others cry foul that any criticism of candidate Barack Obama is interpreted as racially charged. Last night a panel that included political scientists and legal experts met at the University of Chicago to explore how race and gender have factored into our recent political conversations. Chicago Public Radio's Natalie Moore attended and she's with us now to tell us how the conversation went.
