Walking with My Father

SHARE Walking with My Father

As a very young boy living in Chicago, Charlie Rizzo's mother and blind father split up. Charlie's mom took him to Los Angeles. Then one day, Charlie's father, Matt, showed up in California with his driver and took off back to Chicago. The kidnapping sparked a custody battle, and ultimately the judge allowed Matt to visit Charlie as long as they stayed in the state of California. And that was when the relationship between Charlie and his father began.

Our story on Matt and Charlie Rizzo was produced by Dan Collison and Elizabeth Meister for Long Haul Productions. Charlie Rizzo – now in his 50s – runs a decorative arts business in Chicago.

Originally aired June 15, 2007
