Event description

Join Curious City on Saturday, September 24th, as we collaborate with El Paseo Community Garden on its fall harvest event in Pilsen. The harvest fest runs from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. that day. From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., we’ll be celebrating Curious City’s neighborhood series and giving community members an opportunity to learn more about the garden. The full event is free and open to the public.

The celebration will feature a live rendition of this recent Curious City episode, which explores how the El Paseo Community Garden was started and the ways it benefits the Pilsen neighborhood.

Other festivities at the garden will include flamenco performances, food and drink vendors, a short film screening, family art workshops, gardening activities, beekeeping demos, wellness programming and more.

Curious City neighborhood series

For the past year, Curious City has piloted a neighborhood series. In each installment of this series we spend several months doing a deep dive in a neighborhood — gathering questions from residents outside libraries and at outdoor markets, partnering with local organizations and reporting and producing several stories driven by questions from neighborhood residents.

The first neighborhood selected was Pilsen. Last year, we produced a podcast episode answering three questions from Pilsen residents and hosted an event at the National Museum of Mexican Art in the fall. Since then, we’ve produced podcast episodes and digital articles about dancers keeping Aztec dance alive in Harrison Park, metal scrappers and El Paseo Community Garden.
