A 2021 WBEZ investigation found tens of thousands of Chicagoans are behind on their water bills to the city. Communities of color have been disproportionately hit hard.
To help residents affected by this crisis, the environmental justice group Blacks in Green is partnering with WBEZ and Elevate to host a community workshop as part of its Black Chicago Water Council series. Attendees will get information and resources, learn about debt relief programs and other services available to them. Representatives from Chicago’s Department of Finance will have a presentation on the water billing process and answer residents’ questions.
