Small, but tense protest in Northwest Indiana: ‘We have every right to fire upon them’

About 150 people rallied in support of Black Lives Matter and police accountability in St. John, Indiana. But for at least the second time this week in Northwest Indiana, others came out armed with weapons.

“If they decide to get violent and start harming people, we have every right to fire upon them, ” said St. John resident Johnny Martin.

A few minutes later, Martin, and others who were armed, told the demonstrators they have nothing to fear.

“I came over to tell you that we are for what you are doing,” Martin told resident Mike Spers, who responded, “I am too, but I didn’t bring my gun with me.”
