CHICAGO (Oct. 8, 2020) – Today the Chicago Public Media Board of Directors appointed Matt Moog as interim CEO, effective immediately. Moog brings great familiarity with Chicago Public Media as a member of Chicago Public Media’s Board of Directors for more than 11 years and as a past Board chair. He has also recently served as the Executive Chairman of Pocket Casts.

Moog is an experienced CEO, as the founder and CEO of several innovative digital start-ups including PowerReviews. He has 20+ years of experience leading organizations of the size and scope of Chicago Public Media. His proven ability to lead organizations and to collaboratively evolve and execute a compelling strategy will help Chicago Public Media continue to serve its mission. Moog has a deep passion for public media; he is a self-proclaimed public radio nerd and podcasting fan. As interim CEO of Chicago Public Media, Moog is committed to prioritizing a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture that values learning, excellence and professional development.

Today’s news follows an announcement last month that Chicago Public Media will embark upon a renewed search process for a permanent CEO, which is expected to recommence in 2021. Given this timing, Chicago Public Media’s Steve Edwards was asked to consider continuing in his interim CEO role. However, Edwards asked to return to his role as chief content officer of Chicago Public Media after holding a dual role as the station’s interim CEO and chief content officer for the past year. Acknowledging he is a journalist at heart, Edwards noted he is eager to return to leading the station’s content departments including WBEZ and Vocalo. Additionally, Kassie Stephenson will return to chief marketing officer after serving as interim chief operations officer for the last year.

“The entire Board is very grateful to both Steve and Kassie for the strong and steady leadership they have provided in this unprecedented past year. We are fortunate that Matt was ready and willing to serve the organization right now in this capacity, and we welcome him aboard in the interim CEO position,” said Bryan Traubert, chair of Chicago Public Media’s Board of Directors.
