Radio Z special celebrates Bob Dylan’s 80th birthday through conversations with Chicago artists about Dylan’s influence on their music

CHICAGO (May 20, 2021) — Revered songwriter Bob Dylan turns 80 this month. To celebrate Dylan’s milestone birthday and recognize his influence on modern music and culture, WBEZ 91.5FM will present Dylan at 80: A Chicago Music Perspective in a special edition of Radio Z hosted by Jason Marck.

Dylan at 80 will air Friday, May 21 at 9 p.m. during Radio Z, WBEZ’s Friday night show that ends each week with an eclectic music mix. The special will air a second time on Monday, May 31 at noon as part of WBEZ’s Memorial Day programming.

During the one-hour special, Marck talks to some of Chicago’s best-known musicians, including Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, jazz vocalist Kurt Elling, country singer-songwriter Robbie Fulks, soul and gospel singer Mavis Staples, pianist Lisa Kaplan and blues singer and guitarist Joanna Connor.

“I’m crazy about Bob Dylan, and I’m crazy about Chicago music,” said Marck. “So in honor of Dylan’s upcoming birthday I talked with best-known and most-loved Chicago artists from a wide range of genres about Dylan, and his influence on their life and their art and music.”
