DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin has run out of patience. After 20 years as an Illinois State Senator, Cronin says he’s too impatient to allow mismanagement to plague local government. Now in his second year in the office, Cronin has proposed a plan to help consolidate offices and spending. He’s calling it the DuPage ACT (Accountability, Consolidation and Transparency) Initiative. Cronin’s goal with the initiative is better access to the 52 boards and commissions he oversees.

Chairman Cronin says that not everyone at the County is eager to take a detailed look at how they run their shops and hand over heaps of data. He concedes he didn’t make many friends when he eliminated accumulated sick and vacation days for employees. And there’s still work ahead. The county is only through the beginning stages of evaluating departments, and will then decide what future moves need to be made to streamline governance.
