Former mayor Jane Byrne has passed away. She was 81. The remembrances are pouring out from the people who worked with her, fought with her, revered her, and hated her. She broke the glass ceiling in Chicago politics. She took on the Democratic machine. Byrne may have only been in office for a single term. Four years from 1979 to 1983.
