The media love a “sure thing.”  That’s why when it comes to religion and belief, there are plenty of stories about people who are sure that the earth was created in seven days, or sure that their god will strike down people who don’t agree with them.  Less glamorous is “the seeker,” the one who does not know, the one who ventures down a variety of spiritual paths looking for answers that can help them make sense of a seemingly chaotic universe.  On the Afternoon Shift we’re highlighting one such seeker. Pamay Bassey is an educator, an entrepreneur, comedian, author, and blogger.

Back in 2009, Bassey’s grandmother passed away.  A few months later, her dad died after a long and difficult illness.  Right on the heels of those personal tragedies, her four-year relationship disintegrated.  In an effort to pull herself from the pain of loss and look at the world with a fresh perspective, she began a journey that would take her to a different house of worship each week for a year.

That odyssey would culminate in the book My 52 Weeks of Worship: Lessons from a Global, Spiritual, Interfaith Journey. Even though the 52 weeks have come and gone, Pamay Bassey continues her journey and encourages others to share their stories on her website My 52 Weeks of Worship Project in an effort to “facilitate dialogue about culture, community, connection, experience and worship, both online and in the world.”
