The Nobel Prize in physics today went to Brit Peter Higgs and Belgian Francois Englert, a pair of scientists who in the 1960s predicted a theory about why particles have mass. That lead to the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle, which was discovered last year by the Hadron Collider. Local scientists (and both of our national labs here in Illinois) helped played a role in that discovery. WBEZ’s Michael Puente spoke to a Fermilab researcher about what she did, and we’ll also speak with Argonne particle physicist Tom LeCompte about his role. (Photo: Flickr/Fifth World Art)
