The South Shore Opera Company of Chicago will perform “Troubled Island,” the first black opera presented by a U.S. major opera company back in 1949. It runs this weekend at the South Shore Cultural Center. Artistic Director Cornelius V. John III, along with conductor Leslie B. Dunner and performers Peter B. Slavin, Kirk Walker, Gwen Brown and Donald A. Huddleston join us in studio for a live performance and interview. (Photo: Instagram/WBEZChicago)
