Today the digital startup hub 1871 said it wants to start an organization solely devoted to helping women-owned tech companies. It’s funded by the Lefkofsky Family Foundation and Motorola Mobility and it’s one of 40 female-focused incubators around the world. A lot of companies are devoting resources to these types of initiatives, but why?
A new study released today sheds some light on this issue. The joint research effort from Harvard, MIT, and Wharton, did two controlled experiments that found investors greatly preferred pitches by men over pitches by women, even when the pitch was the same.
