George Starling, one of the three main characters of Isabel Wilkerson’s Warmth of Other Suns, left Florida and became a New York-based Pullman Porter. Historian Timuel Black and WBEZ’s Richard Steele join us to talk about Pullman porters and their role in the Great Migration. Later on in the hour, a surviving Pullman porter joins us, and we talk about the Goodman Theatre’s “Pullman Porter Blues” with actor Larry Marshall.
