Radio Genius Joe Frank recently passed away. At joefrank.com Joe’s wife Michal Story has posted a number of wonderful tributes. Here is mine, a recording we did together in 2005. It was an absurd situation. Joe was hooked up to a dialysis machine, he laid out his thoughts on comedy, god, and suffering.
I’ll never forget the first time I heard Joe’s voice come out of the radio, I was in a car, on a back road, a dark back road at night in Montana. It was glorious. It was the first time I ever heard art coming out of the radio.
I was very lucky to get the chance to meet Joe a number of times, he was always very generous and kind. He had an amazing spirit. RIP Joe Frank
***Also, Chicago Filmmaker DP Carlson made a Joe Frank documentary. It is awesome. If you are a Joe Frank you can help make this movie a reality. DP still needs to finish the music licensing and do a final cut and then it is off to film festivals. Let’s make this happen
