Hey, you did it! All the nudging and suggestions worked — the first Curious City podcast is ready.

We’ve been taking questions about Chicago, the ‘burbs and Northwest Indiana, and now we have an audio buffet for you: a mix of our region’s enigmas, our reporters’ updates, some 3-sentence explanations (yes, some answers really are that easy to come by), as well as some meatier investigations that take some time to savor. We hope to have a new episode for you each month.

You can subscribe via: iTunes (just search for Curious City in the podcasts) or via this link on Feedburner or check us out on SoundCloud.

In this edition we hear from some seasoned citizens about how they kept cool back in the days before air conditioning; we try to stump former WBEZ “trafficologist” Sarah Jindra with some travel-related questions (that traffic guide she mentions is here); and we learn why banjo busker Dobro Joe got inspired by animal poo at the Lincoln Park zoo. Hat tips go to Kari Carlson, Spencer Maz, Margaret Ladner and Kelley Clink for the questions!

Special thanks to Timothy “Speed” Levitch for his poetic contributions about why curiosity is such a vital force. You can catch Speed delightful magical history tours around the country in his new Hulu series Up To Speed.

Lastly, recall that this is our first ever podcast, and we hope to improve our game. Got comments and suggestions? If so, we’d gladly take them to heart after we see them here.

So, quit scratching your head and click ‘play’ or subscribe with the links above!

Thanks, friends!
