Reporter’s Notebook: New life for an iconic hospital?

Dorota Gosztyła passes by the old, now vacant, Cook County Hospital building on Chicago’s near West Side almost every day. Sometimes, from afar, she’ll admire the building’s architectural details or its size.

“I find the building to be beautiful,” Gosztyla says. “I think it’s a shame for it to be standing here vacant. I just don’t get it."

So, she asked Curious City what would become of the boarded-up building that sits right off I-290 next to the Rush University Medical Center. Reporter Chris Bentley sets out to find an answer. You can keep track of his progress in his reporter’s notebook below.
