Tomorrow, thousands of rank and file Chicago police officers are expected to protest their boss’s leadership outside his office. Chicago Police Department Superintendant Jody Weis was an FBI agent when Mayor Richard M. Daley chose him to do damage control following a series of police misconduct scandals. At that time, officers were accused of beating civilians and stealing from drug dealers. But Weis’ installment created a division within the department. As an outsider with no beat experience, his subordinates criticized him for not understanding their complaints.We discuss those divisions within the Chicago Police Department and how they affect crime and safety on our streets.
