It used to be that judicial races were some of the cheapest political campaigns to finance. Historically, contested races are rare. But this year some judicial retention elections are proving a bit more contentious, resulting in bigger campaign coffers. In Illinois, Supreme Court Justice Thomas Kilbride has been targeted by conservative activists, including the political action committee JUSTPAC.
