A Recent Recall Has Abbott Labs Under the Microscope

Babies are a recent topic of concern at Abbott Labs. Abbott issued a voluntary recall of some five million containers of its Similac infant formula last week. Apparently the product was contaminated by beetle and other insect matter. The Food and Drug Administration says ingesting bits of beetles won’t do much harm beyond mild indigestion. But the news is certainly causing bellyaches among Abbott employees. That may be because of other snafus – from layoffs to drug recalls. To tell us more about some of the news coming out of one of the prominent companies in the Chicago region is our business contributor David Greising.
