Laramie, Wyoming, is the town where Matthew Shepard was brutally and fatally beaten. Depending on who you ask, the reasons for his murder vary from robbery to homophobia. Those opinions of and reactions to the murder are what the New York-based Tectonic Theater Project explored in a play that premiered in 2000. Tonight, more than 100 theaters nationwide will simultaneously read from an epilogue to the Laramie Project, a 10-year update of sorts. Chicago’s About Face Theatre is among them. Artistic Director Bonnie Metzgar says the epilogue examines the long-term impact of Matthew Shepard’s murder on his neighbors and the country.

Simultaneous Nationwide Reading of the Laramie Project Epilogue
Begins at 6:45 p.m.
The Goodman’s Owen Theater in Chicago
