Activists and laid off workers will gather this morning at an unemployment office in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood. They are demanding that Congress act to extend unemployment benefits, which are set to expire tomorrow. The extension has been caught up in a political rigmarole since earlier this year. Another delay in benefits would affect the hundreds of thousands of jobless residents of the Prairie State, who rely on some type of unemployment benefit.
