As the invasive Asian carp approaches Lake Michigan, we talk with Colonel Vincent Quarles, Commander of the Army Corps of Engineers’ Chicago District, about electronic barriers intended to keep the potentially disastrous fish from entering Lake Michigan. Electric barriers, designed to stop carp migration, have been installed in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal. The Army Corps of Engineers has recently cranked up the voltage in order to deter the fish.
