In the novel What’s the Matter with Kansas, author Thomas Frank explores why Kansas has become an increasingly conservative state despite having a long history of left-wing populism.Filmmakers Laura Cohen and Joe Winston decided to follow up on the premise in Frank’s book. Their new documentary by the same name. What’s the Matter With Kansas? gets its Chicago premiere tomorrow night at the Gene Siskel Film Center Friday night. You can join the two filmmakers for an audience discussion on Friday and Saturday nights.
