A team of researchers and young activists based in Hyde Park hope to make the Internet a more relevant place for African-American youth. The University of Chicago’s Black Youth Project was launched in 2003 to study the attitudes, actions and decision-making of young African-Americans. Their new Web site aims to spread the knowledge the project has acquired and to provide a dynamic online place for black youth to engage in political and social discourse. Cathy Cohen is a professor of political science at the University of Chicago and the principal investigator for the Black Youth Project. She and U of C second-year student Edward James explain the project.
