One thing that some listeners appreciate about public radio—it tries to tell the whole story. Sure, it may be a contrarian move in an age of short attention spans but it works for WBEZ. Still, distilling things down to their essence can also yield great results. The 90-Second Newberry Film Festival turns award-winning children’s literature into short movies—90 seconds short! Chicago author James Kennedy is the driving force behind the fest which debuted in New York. Kennedy brought the show to his home turf in Chicago and joined Eight Forty-Eight to talk about the project.

The festival takes place Wednesday night at the Harold Washington Library in Chicago’s Loop.

Check out Eight Forty-Eight’s previous interview with Kennedy about his young adult novel The Order of Odd-Fish.
