Cell Phone Towers Could Pose Risk for Students

Verizon wants to build an antenna array on school property in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. It’s become a common money-maker for Chicago Public Schools – more than a hundred schools have cell towers or antennas, and about 40 more have similar deals in the works.

But the phone companies are starting to run into opposition. Now many parents at Franklin Fine Arts Center on the Near North side are worried about potential health risks from the tower’s radiation. WBEZ science reporter Gabriel Spitzer has been covering this story, and joins us for an update.
