The streets of Chicago have been documented by many famous photographers, including Art Shay and Harry Callahan. But during the 1950s and ’60s, another shutterbug was busy at work.

Vivian Maier was a nanny in Chicago’s northern suburbs. Equipped with a keen eye and a camera, she took tens of thousands of photographs on frequent trips into the city. Maier died in 2009 but thanks to the curiosity of a local man, her photos are now being discovered around the world.

Nora O’Donnell writes about Vivan Maier’s life and work in the latest Chicago Magazine.

She joined “Eight Forty-Eight” in studio to share more. O’Donnell is the author of  “The Life and Work of Street Photographer Vivian Maier” which is in the latest Chicago magazine.

Some of Maier’s photos are on display at Chicago’s Cultural Center through April 3.
