Evanston and Chicago, both lakefront communities with a lot going for them, including diverse populations and impressive cultural and economic draws; but Eight Forty-Eight wondered, when stacked against each other, how do they compare? Both municipalities have been in the midst of their budget processes. In Evanston there has been talk of a referendum to dissolve the township governing structure to save money on future budget obligations. Meanwhile, Chicago has proposed a mix of cuts and rate hikes, including one for water. If that proposal passed, it could prove a boon to Evanston’s own efforts in the water business.
