We can all agree that the violence in, around, and on the way to and from some Chicago Public Schools has gotten out of control. Where we can’t seem to agree – or at least make any headway – is on how to put an end to it. That’s a thorny debate at the heart of conversations that stretch back years. Today Rick Phillips starts a tour of 14 Chicago schools with a violence prevention program he thinks will help. Phillips is the Executive Director of Community Matters, a California-based non-profit. He’s also the co-founder of the Safe School Ambassadors program, which he’ll be piloting at some local schools this week.
