Each year, a new group of high school students enrolls in Sarah Levine’s radio class at Curie Metro High School. Under her tutelage, the kids go on to produce some phenomenal radio. We air their pieces as part of our series, Southwest Side Stories.

The students start each year by doing what we call in the radio business “vox pops.” That’s a collection of voices all answering one question. Here’s the first piece – in which the students asked their peers about a matter of the heart unique to school.

“Teacher Crush” was produced by Curie students Destiny Collazo, Kathryn Kaye, Mark Poore, and Mariah Steward. We talk with Destiny and Mark about the piece and the Curie radio program.
