The new HBO documentary By the People: The Election of Barack Obama captures the President from back when he was a Senator to his first primary win in Iowa to Election Night. Directors Alicia Sams and Amy Rice followed Obama for nearly two years. They gained unparalleled access with a little help from actor Edward Norton who produced the film. Sams recalls when they realized they weren’t following just any politician.
