Deep in the Gulf of Thailand lays the remains of a crew of World War Two heroes. 86 US Navy sea men, including Bill Mabin from LaGrange Illinois, were trapped in a metal tomb called the USS Lagarto. The ship and its crew are featured in a new documentary Lost and Found: The Legacy of USS Lagarto. Richard Steele recently spoke with Bill Mabin’s granddaughter, Beth Kenney Augustine, and the film’s co-writers and producers Harvey Moshman and Chuck Coppola.

The documentary Lost and Found: The Legacy of USS Lagarto airs on WTTW Channel 11 at 6:00PM this Sunday and again on Memorial Day at 2:30PM on WTTW Prime 11.2 digital. For photos and more information about the USS Lagarto, visit the Wisconsin Maritime Museum’s website.
