President Barack Obama is on the campaign trial again, but many think the excitement and enthusiasm he generated back in 2008 will be less present. Back then filmmakers Alicia Sams and Amy Rice caught the energy. They followed Obama for two years, all the way through election night. The results are their documentary By the People: The Election of Barack Obama.

In 2009, Sams spoke to WBEZ’s Richard Steele. She began by saying how quickly she realized that Obama wasn’t just any politician.
