Drew Peterson’s wife Stacey is still missing. Meanwhile the Will County State’s Attorney is working to prosecute Peterson for the death of his ex-wife, Kathleen Savio. And journalist David Murray says beyond the drama, there’s another issue at the heart of this saga: how law enforcement responds to domestic violence. There’s no doubt that Savio cried for help, and that her cries went largely unanswered. Last year, Murray wrote a piece for Chicago Magazine that investigated Savio’s complaints of threats and abuse in the years before her 2004 death. He interviewed officials from Will County and from Bolingbrook, where Peterson was a police officer, and where both he and Savio lived.
