Sor Juana was a prodigy of the arts and sciences in 17th century Mexico.  At the time, girls weren’t allowed to attend school.  But her gifts could not be contained, and by her late teens Sor Juana was one of the most widely read poets in New Spain.  So, does director Henry Godinez successfully convey the pioneering, creative spirit of this larger-than-life figure?  Eight Forty-Eight‘s Dueling Critics Jonathan Abarbanel and Kelly Kleiman dropped by to give us their assessment.  The Sins of Sor Juana, part of the Goodman Theatre’s Latino Theatre Festival, runs through July 25 at the Goodman in Chicago.
