More economic woes hit Schaumburg-based Motorola this week. The company announced it would lay off 4,000 workers, the majority of which will be cut from their mobile phone division. That’s on top of 3,000 cuts the company announced late last year.

But even in this weak economy, mobile phones are hardly a luxury device. So if it’s not the economy, just how did Moto drop the connection to its consumers? Wailin Wong writes about technology for the Chicago Tribune and she tells us more about the missteps at Motorola.
