On Monday night, chef Bruce Sherman, of the renowned restaurant North Pond in Lincoln Park, took home a James Beard award for Best Chef in the Great Lakes region, as did Mindy Sherman of Hot Chocolate for Best Pastry Chef. Tuesday morning they join Eight Forty-Eight to talk about the awards ceremony and how it feels to win. After that, we’ll be joined by WBEZ blogger Louisa Chu and Serious Eats editor Nick Kindelsperger to talk about food writer Amanda Hesser’s recent controversial blog post about whether or not it’s possible to make a living from food writing.

We’ll also have a history quiz from WBEZ blogger John Schmidt on noteworthy Chicago moms just in time for Mother’s Day. You can call 312.923.9239 to play.

The Chicago Turkish Music Society, which combines members of the Middle East Music Ensemble and the Vice Consul of Turkey, play new Turkish compositions for us throughout the hour.
