EPA Blocks BP's Plans for Whiting Plant
On a clear day from our perch on Navy Pier you can see all the way across Lake Michigan to the BP oil refinery in Whiting, Indiana. The company is expanding and upgrading that plant – so that it can process heavy crude from Canadian tar sands. But the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency yesterday threw a bit of a wrench in those plans. It has blocked final approval of an air permit for the Whiting plant. WBEZ's Northwest Indiana Reporter Michael Puente has an update.
