Eight Forty-Eight left its passport at home despite taking a European tour of sorts. There were stops in both Germany and France as Christy LeMaster reviewed two foreign films coming to Chicago. First Eight Forty-Eight headed to France for Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life, a biopic about the late French singer, Serge Gainsbourg. The movie opens next Friday at Landmark Theatres’ Renaissance Place Cinema in Highland Park and at Chicago’s Music Box Theatre. Then, the newly restored World on a Wire will begin a week-long run Friday at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago. Also, the opening night of the weekend film series, Chicago 8: A Small Gauge Film Festival, begins Friday. LeMaster is a co-producer of one of the festival’s programs. LeMaster directs the Nightingale Theatre in Chicago and joins Eight Forty-Eight monthly to talk film. She also teaches media theory at Columbia College.
