On Tuesday, July 26, Eight Forty-Eight spoke with Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy. While talking about gun violence in the city, McCarthy stressed that many of the weapons recovered by police were illegal. So then why do many weapons circulate illegally? Eight Forty-Eight wondered how a gun goes from the legal to the illegal market?

For answers Eight Forty-Eight turned to Tom Diaz, a senior policy analyst with the Violence Policy Center in Washington. The Violence Policy Center is a non-profit center that specializes in issues of gun violence from a public health point of view.
