During last week’s primary election, pawnbroker Scott Lee Cohen won the democratic nomination for Lt. Governor. Shortly thereafter details of Cohen’s past made that victory short-lived. The relatively unknown and unexamined candidate suddenly got some media attention. And many voters realized for the first time that Cohen had once held a knife to an ex-girlfriend’s throat—an ex-girlfriend who was a convicted prostitute. Cohen also has a history of using steroids, and questions came up about his claim of owning a “green” Laundromat. All that led to a departure from the race, announced during the SuperBowl halftime.
