In 2007, former Chicago Public Radio producer Gianofer Fields traveled everywhere from small towns to little-known spots within and around the city for her series Out of My Way. In April, Gianofer headed out to Poplar Creek Forest Preserve to learn about orienteering, the sport of finding a series of markers laid out on a trail. The last question she asked orienteer Kathy Bullard was whether anyone ever got lost. She should have been more specific. She should have asked if anyone ever got lost on their way to an orienteering event.
