In just a couple weeks, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn will celebrate three months in office. He’s had an influx of federal money come in and dealt with backlash from a proposed income tax increase. Today, he appoints a new chair to the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board. The board was once the playground of Stuart Levine and Tony Rezko, who was convicted of federal charges that he used the board to collect bribes. The board considers bids for new hospitals in the state. Quinn has tapped Dr. Quentin Young, a public health expert, civil rights activist and a long-time contributor to WBEZ. Governor Quinn explains the decision and his first months in office.
